Students of Continental Group of Institutes (CGI), Jalvehra in Fatehgarh Sahib, informed Mastuna Sahib village residents of this during a special one-week cancer and hepatitis awareness camp as part of the NSS camp that concluded on Thursday.

The camp saw participation of around 70 students to spread awareness among the villagers about the causes, symptoms and prevention of cancer and hepatitis. The students stressed on recognising the early signs of cancer for getting treatment done at an early stage. They also encouraged the villagers to visit the nearest hospital if any symptoms were visible. The villagers were also educated about the key risk factors of cancer.

The students also informed the villagers about the importance of cancer check-ups at an early stage and motivated them to avail cancer check-up services. Talking about the relevance of such camps and the commendable work done by the students of CGI, Major Gen BPS Grewal (redt), executive director, CGI, said, "Rural Punjab has undergone a lot of development in recent years, but on the health front, people still lack awareness."

During the campaign, volunteers trained the common people about adopting a healthy lifestyle and going for regular check-ups for early detection of symptoms. The students asked the villagers to get their children vaccinated from time to time as the vaccines helped in preventing hepatitis A and hepatitis B.
