Four days after Jind police had booked nearly150 persons including activists of opposition political party for creating lawlessness and stone pelting during employees' strike, Kandela khap has come to their rescue and is demanded withdrawal of criminal cases.
Notably, residents of Jind came out on streets on January 23 during government employees strike after snapping of power and water supplies. Police had to use lathicharge to quell the gathering, which turned the situation violent and mob vandalised the public property. On the next day, police registered a case under attempt to murder, obstructing officials from performing duty against the mob, which named political activists including personal assistant of Harichand Midha, Indian National Lok Dal Jind MLA, Mohit Sharma. The protesters had also torched police vehicles and damaged government vehicles during the incident.
Demanding the withdrawal of the case, Kandela khap said president Tek Ram Kandela said, "Our resentment is against framing innocent youngsters by police, who were present at the site incidentally, but were not involved in mob attack."
He added that khap does not support those who were part of mob, but demand a judicial probe and medical check-up of injured victims by medical board for the real issue to surface. If state government did not approve their demands then they would call a mahapanchayat on 31st January at Shahpur village, which is the turf of Kandela khap, for launching an agitation.
