These are times we see daily instances of humans inflicting untold misery on each other. Yet, kindness never really goes out of fashion.
An IAS officer has proved this adage through his compassion for a stray dog. The officer, Praveen Kumar, posted as director general (archaeology and museums), was in
Sirsa to review the condition of the Ther mound, a centrally-protected monument in the city.
As his car passed the police lines, he noticed a dog wailing in pain and was touched enough to take time out to help it.
By the time, he stopped the car and alighted, the dog had vanished. However, the officer decided to find the animal, even hitched a short ride from a motorcyclist to find and tend to the dog, Pramod Kumar, a witness to the incident, said. Kumar made a video of the incident that is now doing the rounds on social media.
“It was about 11am, when the officer asked his driver to stop the car after noticing the wailing animal. He purchased milk and cookies for the dog and followed it for more than 500m at the police lines,” Pramod said.

{{/usCountry}}Witnesses said during treatment of the dog, the officer sat on the muddy ground and asked the motorcyclist to put medicinal oil on the dog’s body.
“The dog had developed a skin problem, of itching. The oil will help the dog and I also administered some medicines. The dog was in a pitiable condition,” the officer told reporters, who had gathered at the spot, hearing about the commotion that his act of kindness had caused.
“The most loyal animal on earth is the dog. I understood and even felt his pain. I wanted to help,” the officer added.
