Violation of traffic rules on the roads of Kullu district is a common sight but now district police will take help of CCTV (close circuit television) cameras to nab the offenders in towns, including Bhuntar, Kullu and Manali, where the traffic remains high throughout the year.
On the national highway from Bhuntar to Manali, motorcyclist and drivers frequently violate the traffic rules, especially youngsters refrain to wear helmet, and buses and car drivers usually drive on high speed, leading to fatal accident.
To deal with the situation efficiently, district police has installed 32 CCTV cameras at different key location in Bhuntar, Kullu and Manali town that are connected to the police stations concerned so that officials on duty can easily monitor the situation and offender could be easily identified.
Kullu deputy superintendent of police Sanjay Sharma said, “We have installed 32 cameras at key locations to monitor traffic in the district and these camera are of high quality with night vision, which will help the police to nab the offenders.”
Data availed by HT revealed that the number of the violators is increasing alarmingly in the district.
This year Kullu police challaned 65,292 vehicles and collected Rs 92.38 lakh as a revenue for government exchequer, while in 2013, police challaned 29,318 vehicles for violating traffic rules and collected sum of Rs 68.18lakh as a fine.
Data availed by HT revealed that the number of the violators is increasing alarmingly in the district.

According to official data of police department, this year, 150 road accidents occurred in the district in which 55 people lost their lives, while 260 people were injured. In 2013, 143 road accidents were recorded in the district, claiming 65 lives and 253 people were injured.
