In a shocking incident, a labourer was hacked to death by a fellow labourer after he stopped the man from eve-teasing his sister. The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in Pangli village.

Police arrested the Yashpal,his niece Alka and sister-in-law Sudesh. The accused also injured the family members of the victim.

The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Chander Bose. His father, Paley Ram (70) said after the incident he tried to contact police and ambulance service for help, but in vain. A driver of a pick-up helped him and rushed his injured son to the hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead. He added that if his son had received help on time, his life could be saved.

Paley Ram said Yashpal teased his daughter Sonam. On Wednesday, he stopped her and used inappropriate language for her. Sonam complained to Chander about it. Following this, he went to Yashpal’s house and dared him to repeat what he had said to his sister.

He further said he and his daughters Laxmi, Sumitra, Sonam, Seema and sons Monu and Ashu also suffered injuries. They were admitted to the hospital. Chander was the eldest among all siblings.

Sahnewal station house officer Rajwant Singh said police arrested the accused immediately after registering a case of murder against them.
