Punjab governor Kaptan Singh Solanki held a meeting with deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and BJP minister Madan Mohan Mittal on May 25, a day after a Congress delegation met him and submitted a memorandum on the “collapse” of law and order in the state.
Sukhbir, who also holds the portfolio of home affairs, apprised the governor on steps being taken by the state police after recent incidents of violence.
Reacting to this, Congress chief spokesman Sunil Jakhar, who had led the delegation to the governor on May 24, on Friday questioned why the Punjab government which issues press statements on everything did not issue one on being summoned by the governor.
“The charges of our party on deteriorating law and order in Punjab got a stamp of approval from the governor as he had called Sukhbir. The confession of the Punjab DGP regarding presence of 57 gangs with 427 members in state is itself a major proof to ascertain the charges levelled by us,” said Jakhar.
He added that instead of trying to “befool” the people of state through “distorted” data, Sukhbir should immediately rein in the land, sand, drug mafia and its goons to restore the faith of common man in the police.
