The girl, a resident of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, Chandigarh Road, on her way to ‘Kanjak Poojan’ lost way on Sunday morning. Rafiq after sweating out for at least three hours found a girl near Tajpur Chowk and handed her over to her parents.

Family expressed gratitude towards the police officer. Kimti Lal, father of the girl, said that had police not taken timely action, his daughter would have been in trouble.

Division number 7 station officer inspector Gurbinder Singh said that Kimti Lal of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar has contacted police on Sunday morning stating that his 6- yearold daughter has gone missing from the colony.

He said that she along with other girls went for Kanjak Poojan in the neighborhood, but did not return, while all other girls had come back.

“I immediately alerted the staff and asked them to trace the girl. ASI Mohammad Rafiq took the responsibility to trace the girl. He along with head constable Sukhdev Singh searched everywhere in the area and enquired about her from shopkeepers,” said the SHO.

The ASI said he is a human being first. He respects all religion and being a police officer it is his duty to serve the people beyond any prejudice. He is happy that with his efforts a child has been reunited with her family. It is no less than worship for him.
