A man was seriously injured while trying to ward off eight men who barged into his house and tried to molest his two daughters in Chandigarh.

According to the FIR, the accused, armed with sharp-edged weapons, stormed the house of Raju (name changed), who has three daughters.

His eldest daughter was admitted to hospital while his two daughters were at home when the eight accused forcibly entered his house on intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. “They tried to molest my daughters. When they retaliated, the molesters set the house on fire. When I reached the house with my wife, they attacked me with sharp-edged weapons,” he alleged. He said his wife also sustained minor injuries.

“This is not the first time when these men have harassed my daughters. They used to stalk them even on their way to school. I had complained to police but nothing happened,” he complained.

The police took the injured man to Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where he received around 30 stitches on his head.

The police have booked the eight accused under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police said they have roundup an accused called Satnam, alias Hathi, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony. The others were identified as Mintu, Papa, Rasal, Akash, Rahul, Karan and Jesu Lal.
