Mansa student’s death: Family agrees to postmortem after receiving Rs 2.5-lakh aid

The family has been protesting since Wednesday after the child had died in a hospital in Bathinda.

The family of Karan Prasad, a Class-eight student of a government school in the district who had died after consuming iron tablets, called off their protest and agrred to cremate him after receiving an aid of around 2.5 lakh on Saturday.

The family has been protesting since Wednesday after the child had died in a hospital in Bathinda.

Mansa SDM Latif Ahmad said a teachers’ union and a union of local registered medical practitioners (RMPs) contributed around Rs 1.5 lakh while the rest of the amount was given in cheque by deputy commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta from the Red Cross Society fund.

“The family has agreed to allow the postmortem of the deceased’s body after which the cremation will take place later in the evening,” said Ahmad.

He also assured that if the postmortem report indicates any wrongdoing, the guilty won’t be spared.
