In efforts to improve the health of maternal and child to reduce the child mortality rate, city to get a 30 bedded Maternal and Child Healthcare (MCH) unit.
The purpose of the Punjab Government to establish this MCH project of worth Rs 6 crores is to provide all the facilities related to the care of pregnant women and neonatal care under one roof.
The construction of a three storied building on the pattern of the paediatrics centre has completed about 50% of construction in the premises of Kapurthala Civil Hospital and scheduled to be started in March, 2015.
Once the building comes into existence, the required infrastructure and equipment will be arranged and required gynaecologists, paediatricians, staff nurses, and other paramedical staff will also be appointed.
The centre will provide completely free treatment including medicines, food, new born diet, transportation to the mother and child for one year to boy child and five years to the girl child.
Presently, the maternal and child healthcare related patients have been accommodated in the general ward of Civil Hospital and currently, the hospital is having around 100 bed facility in the ward.
Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of Kapurthala, Civil Hospital Roshan Lal said that the MCH centre will provide the best treatment to mother and child with advance technology equipments.

{{/usCountry}}"The centre would have Operation Theatre (OT), Out patient department (OPD), 30 beds facility, special ward for children and New born care unit", he said.
Civil Surgeon of Kapurthala Civil Hospital, Balbir Singh said that this centre will provide free of cost intensive care to the mother and child.
"Moreover, patients coming under below poverty line will get incentive of Rs 650 from the government", he said.
He said that this effort by the government will help to reduce the maternal mortality rate and increase the sex ratio in the state.
Meanwhile, more than 200 deliveries being reported in the Kapurthala Civil hospital every month.
