Justice Naresh Kumar Sanghi, a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, died on Monday following a heart attack. Justice Sanghi was on way to the Tirupati temple along with his family members when he suffered a cardiac arrest.
All courts in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will remain closed on March 8 as a mark of respect to Justice Sanghi.
Justice Sanghi was sworn in as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court on September 30, 2011, and was to retire in June 2017. He became deputy advocate general, Haryana, in 1996 and thereafter additional advocate general, Punjab, in 2007.
Born on July 5, 1955, in a family of lawyers at Narnaul in Haryana, Justice Sanghi completed his graduation from the local government college. He was elected as the general secretary of the students’ union. When he was studying law at the University College of Law, Nagpur, he was elected as president of the students’ union.
In 1980, he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh and started practicing at Narnaul under the guidance of his father Hanuman Parshad Sanghi. In 1987, he was unanimously elected president of the Narnaul municipal committee. He was honoured with a “Samman Patra” from the income tax department.
