At Punjab’s schools for the ‘meritorious’, 2.3% students fail

A total of 47 students of seven residential meritorious schools across the state failed in the senior secondary examinations conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

A total of 47 students of seven residential meritorious schools across the state failed in the senior secondary examinations conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

Though the overall pass percentage — 97.71% — of meritorious school students was the highest among all categories as compared to that of the state which was 76.77%, it raises a question over the performance as it is the dream project of the state government to raise the standard of education in government schools.

As many as 2,053 students from all meritorious schools appeared for Class 12 of which 2,006 passed the exams. Names of 23 meritorious school students figure in the merit list of 341 students.

Chanpreet Kaur and Navjot Kaur from the SAS Nagar meritorious school are ranked 20th with a score of 95.78% and Pawandeep from Ludhiana was ranked 52nd with a score of 97.56%.

Students of government schools affiliated with PSEB who got 80% or above in Class 10 got admission in meritorious schools.

The schools were set up to strengthen the education system at the senior secondary level and to equip the government school students with English medium syllabus of Classes 11 and 12. The students were also provided special coaching for competitive exams.
