PSPCL imposes fine on farmers stealing power

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Monday carried out a checking of tubewell connections in Tarn Taran district and caught a number of farmers stealing electricity to operate their tubewells through unauthorised connections.

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Monday carried out a checking of tubewell connections in Tarn Taran district and caught a number of farmers stealing electricity to operate their tubewells through unauthorised connections.

PSPCL superintendent engineer (SE) Jagjit Singh, in a statement issued here, claimed that 360 power theft cases were registered during the checking. While some of these connections were unauthorised, others were using more than the sanctioned load, he added.

A total fine to the tune of about `1.5 crore has been imposed on the farmers in the 360 cases. A total of 33,74 connections to tubewells were checked by teams of the PSPCL.
