Channi meets kin

Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi, who visited the family on Wednesday, said, “If the Akali government fails to nab all accused, including liquor baron and SAD leader Shiv Lal Doda, the Congress will call for safai karamcharis (sweepers) across the state to strike in support of Sain, who was also a Valmiki, like most of the workers.”

He also announced that a three-member committee of MLAs would be formed in the next 24 hours in consultation with state party chief Captain Amarinder Singh to probe this case.

“The formation of a special investigation team is just an eyewash. Going by the previous experience, such probes are meant to save the culprits,” Channi claimed. He was accompanied by MLA Sunil Jakhar. A Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Hardev Singh Arshi also met Sain’s family.
