A Hyundai Verna car (PB 03 AE 3539) used by the accused to commit Rs 60-lakh loot after killing a security guard here on Monday was snatched at gunpoint in Bathinda the previous day, it is learnt.

The Verna car was recovered in a charred condition from near a drain at Jalal village of Bathinda on Tuesday morning and it is suspected that the accused set it afire deliberately.
As per the information, the car was snatched from Rajnish Kumar of Bathinda at 8.30pm on Sunday by four people. The accused also snatched his mobile phone. An FIR was registered in this regard under Ssections 382 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bathinda.
Modus operandi point to professional criminals
Preliminary investigations in the robbery hint at the role of professional criminals.
Police have procured the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage from various locations to know the route taken by the accused after committing the crime. “We have investigated various footages in which two cars—a Htundai Verna and a Hyundai i20—are seen, but their registration numbers are not legible,” a police official said.

{{/usCountry}}Superintendent of police (investigation), Moga, Amarjit Singh, said at around 11am on Tuesday, someone informed the Bathinda police about a burnt car at Jalal village. “We have taken the vehicle in custody,” he said. The SP said they were working on various leads and using technology to crack the case.
