The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday ridiculed state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh for assuring people to address their problems, especially the drug menace, within months of coming to power after the 2017 assembly polls.

“Amarinder promised to address in four months the problems which he could not address even in five years as chief minister. This goes on to show just how desperate and pathetic are the attempts which he has been driven to make for regaining some of his lost political relevance,” SAD general secretary Balwinder Singh Bhunder said in a statement here.

Bhunder said the promises made at the Congress rally on Tuesday had vindicated the stand of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on the fiscal health of the state. “Your promises show that even you believe in what our CM and deputy CM have been saying all along: that the state government has enough funds to carry out all development plans we announce, and to spare for providing liberal facilities and even doles, especially to the poor and backward classes,” Bhunder said.
