Satlok Ashram violence: No fresh leads on properties of Rampal, Haryana tells HC

The Haryana government on Tuesday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that it had failed to get any fresh leads on properties owned by Rampal, controversial sect head of Satlok Ashram of Hisar, and his followers’ trusts in other states.

The Haryana government told the court that it had got replies from Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Sikkim so far while the remaining states were yet to respond to its letter written in December.

The states that filed replies had told that no property of his ashram and his followers’ trusts could be found, the HC was told.

The high court was also told by the Central government that the pay and allowances of the armyman found inside the ashram during violence in November, have been stopped. However, any further action could only be initiated when he reports on duty. He is currently lodged in a Hisar jail, the HC was told.

The high court also directed the Rohtak sessions court to serve summons to 38 accused involved in the 2006 violence at Karontha Ashram in Rohtak for which the court had earlier indicated that the case proceedings could be shifted out of Haryana.

The HC asked the district and sessions judge to publish notices in newspapers against those who could not be served notices so far. In July 2006 violence broke out between members of the Arya Samaj and Rampal followers in which he is an accused and is being tried in a Rohtak court.

The operation to arrest Rampal had cost the government agencies `27 crore and six persons lost their lives in the violence between the police and Rampal followers.
