Police officer in soup for ‘shielding’ drug peddler in Phagwara

The Kapurthala police have initiated criminal proceedings against a station house officer (SHO) for allegedly shielding a man in a drug case after taking a bribe from him.

The Kapurthala police have initiated criminal proceedings against a station house officer (SHO) for allegedly shielding a man in a drug case after taking bribe from him.

“We have initiated criminal proceedings against Satnampura SHO Sulakhan Singh after a preliminary probe conducted by Kapurthala senior superintendent of police (SSP) held him guilty,” said Jalandhar zone-II inspector general of police LK Yadav. The SHO has been shifted to police lines.

According to the complaint, a team of Satnampura police station laid a trap in Adarsh Nagar on March 20 and registered a first hand information (FIR) against one Tarun Khurma of Mehli Gate under sections of 61/1/14 of the Excise Act and showed recovery of 16 liquor bottles from his possession in the case.

The complainant, a local resident, alleged that some intoxicant was also seized from Tarun but the SHO did not slap charges under the NDPS Act. Subsequently, a probe was marked and it found the SHO guilty.
