Every winter life become tough for the residents, especially in emergency situations, and with road communications blocked due to snow the only alternative to travel out of the district is by plane.

Worried over the irregular flight service in district, members of the Congress party called a meeting on Friday at the district headquarters in Keylong to discuss the issue and sent a memorandum containing their demands to chief minister Virbhadra Singh.

Talking over the phone from Keylong, block Congress president Norbu Panse said: “Due to irregular air services residents of the district, many of whom are severely ill patients, are facing great difficulty in move out of the region.

Due to the acute shortage of medical staff, especially specialist doctors, in the district, residents lack proper medical facilities in time of need. The state government should fill up vacant positions of doctors in the area to provide better healthcare for tribals and ensure regular flights to the area are operated.”

After the recent snowfall disrupted road transport in Spiti area residents urged the state government to ask the Border Roads Organization to clear roads between Kaza to Losar.
