Sudden death of 10-yr-old girl baffles doctors in Ludhiana, kin in shock

Sudden demise of a 10-year-old girl in Ludhiana on Wednesday has jolted the family, doctors and area residents.

Akshita Bansal, a resident of Dugri, Phase 1, died in her sleep on Wednesday evening under mysterious circumstances. Doctors are unable to point out a reason for her sudden death, which struck without any symptoms.

Akshita’s father, Ajay Bansal, is a steel trader.

Her uncle, Aatish Agarwal, said she was quite normal. “She came home on Wednesday afternoon from school and had lunch. Then, she went to her room and played piano,” he said.

“Her mother told her to sleep for sometime as she had to go for a dance class at 6pm,” he said, adding that the family is not suspecting any foul play.

According to her mother, Sonia Bansal, Akshita did not respond to her wakeup calls at 6pm. On checking, her body temperature was low after which her mother sprinkled water on her face, but she didn’t react.

Akshita was rushed to Bagga Hospital in Dugri where Dr Inderjit Singh Bagga declared her brought dead.

The family members said that she might have suffered a heart attack and died in her sleep. According to them she was an active child and wasn’t suffering from any illness.

“I have asked her mother if Akshita was suffering from thalassemia or diabetes, but she denied. The family also told that she was not suffering from any heart disease,” said Dr Bagga.

“It is a rare case that a child, without any medical history, has died a silent death in her sleep,” he added.
