Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday blamed state Congress president and newly elected Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar for alleged false cases against SAD workers in the state.

Sukhbir was at a private hospital here to meet Parminder Singh Kolianwali, son of SAD’s Muktsar district president and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Dayal Singh Kolianwali, who was attacked in Malout town of Muktsar district last Sunday. Police have booked some Congress supporters for the attack but also filed a cross-FIR against the SAD men.

Naming Jakhar for being behind these cases, Sukhbir said, “One who used to make an impression that he supports justice is now doing injustice and supports gangsters. Such false cases have been registered against SAD workers in Abohar too.” Abohar, 30km from Malout in Fazilka district, is Jakhar’s home town.

“I want to tell the chief minister that there can’t be more blatant false case than the one registered against Parminder Kolianwali. Actually, the government is not working right now; it’s the rule of gangsters. Murders, land grabbing and injustices are taking place and there is no control of the government,” he said.

“I wish he (Sukhbir Badal) had shown same kind of concern for law and order in Punjab during their 10-year regime. Congress is fully committed to establishing rule of law, and our priority is to get rid of jungle raj that prevailed during SAD-BJP rule. If the SAD leaders feel that they can browbeat the administration with such allegations, then they are mistaken,” he added.
