Confusion and frustration prevailed at SCD Government College on Wednesday when several girl students, who had come to submit the forms to take admission in undergraduate courses, came to know that the college was offering admissions to girls only in their post-graduate courses.
The college authorities say it is clearly mentioned in the college prospectus that they do not offer admission to girls in the undergraduate courses.
But many girl candidates rued that nowhere in the prospectus was it mentioned that the college was not offering admission to girls.
Talking to HT, Rimpy Kaur, a student, said, “If you see the form, the only thing written there is that students can apply for admissions in BA, BCom, BBA and BCA course. When I visited the college campus to deposit the admission form, the authorities refused to give me admission.
Though I had already filled the form in another government college, it feels sad that you only have one option left.”
Another student, Esha Sharma, said, “My father got the prospectus for me. It says nowhere that the college is offering admission to boys only. Today when I came to deposit my form, I found no separate line for girls. When I enquired about the issue, I got the shock of my life when I came to know that the college was not offering admission for girls.”
When contacted, college principal Rajinder Singh said, “There is a clear mention in the prospectus that we don’t offer admission in undergraduate courses — BCom, BBA and BCA— to girls.
