The word Shan-e-Punjab means pride of Punjab but advertisements of a tobacco product on the Shan-e-Punjab Express train that runs from Amritsar to Delhi has reportedly hurt sentiments of a few passengers.
The tobacco advertisements, displayed on coach number C2 of the Shan-e-Punjab Express (12497), were pasted in such a way that the coach windows were translucent.
Dr Amandeep Singh Bains, a passenger from Ludhiana who was travelling from Delhi in the train on Thursday, filed a complaint in the complaint book (kept with the coach attendant) and urged the authorities to remove the advertisements from the coach.
“Amritsar is a holy city with sacred importance. The advertisement of a pan masala product on Shan-e-Punjab Express is disrespect to the city as well as Punjab. Railways should remove such advertisements from the coach,” said Dr Amandeep Singh Bains, who also tweeted the matter to railway minister Suresh Prabhu.
Few other passengers stated that the advertisement was obstructing their vision. They added that railways should not promote such advertisements regarding tobacco.
36-year-old Suraj Kumar, who was travelling from Amritsar to Delhi, said “Such products that are injurious to health should not be promoted by the railways.”
