Traders observed a bandh at Rama Mandi on Wednesday against the alleged murder of a young trader who was attacked with baseball bats by unidentified assailants on Tuesday evening when he was on his way home after closing his shop.
Victim Punit Singla (22) at was heading home at around 8.45 pm with his father Mahavir Kumar when some people attacked him with baseball bats.
Mahavir Kumar, in a statement to the police, alleged that attackers ran away after inflicting serious injuries on his son.
The victim was rushed to a government hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Based on the father's
complaint, police have booked four unidentified men for murder under Section 302 of the IPC.
Meanwhile, angry after the murder of fellow trader, businessmen in Rama Mandi kept their establishments closed till Wednesday noon. Cotton and paddy markets, where the purchase of the crop is on in full swing these days, were also kept closed during the bandh.
The traders also staged a protest by burning an effigy of the state government. It was only after senior police officials promised to arrest the accused as soon as possible that the traders stopped their protest.
