A drunk man in Rohtak’s Nonand village killed his 40-year-old sister by smashing a beer bottle on her head, the police said on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Sheela Devi, a mother of three.

Police said Sheela was mentally challenged and was living at her mother’s house after returning from Gurgaon from past one year after her husband passed away. Her children were living with her in-laws in Gurgaon. Sheela’s brother Mangal Singh, the accused, allegedly fought with her often for living with them despite marrying twice, the police said, adding that Sheela’s first marriage had ended in divorce.

Mangal’s wife Sunita informed the police that her husband came home drunk on Tuesday night and started arguing with his sister over living with them and burdening them. “As he was fighting a lot, my daughter got scared and I took her to the neighbour’s house for the night. “When I returned in the morning, Sheela was lying dead on the floor, and Mangal fled the spot after threatening to kill me as well if I informed anyone,” Sunita said in her statement to the police.
