Alok Rajwade has garnered a lot of appreciation for his acting in films such as Rajwade & Sons (2014), Rama Madhav (2014) and Vihir (2008). However, the actor is now branching out. He had directed a play titled Don Shoor (under Natak Company) when he was a student at the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, and he is currently working on his directorial debut. He says, “This will be my first commercial directorial in Marathi. I cannot reveal much right now. The film is written by Dharmakirti Sumant.”
Alok will also be seen in Kasav, a Marathi film that has won accolades across the globe. The film talks about depression and relevant mental health problems. “We shot the film in Devgad last year. It is a positive approach toward dealing with mental health problems.”
Speaking about the current status of the Marathi film industry, Alok says, “There has been some great innovation in content and we have really brought out some great films. I am not familiar enough with the distribution aspect to comment on it, but I feel we need to introduce some innovative techniques. I feel it is not democratic enough and the power is kind of limited to certain sources. I would like to see that change.”
A Pune boy, Alok says he is privileged to have grown up in the city. “It is a dynamic city with so much to offer, both culturally and educationally. The city has newer sensibilities every day and we have to change with it. I don’t associate myself with the Pune of old. I relate more to contemporary Pune, which is a mix of cultures, religions and sensibilities. It is a feel-good collage.”

{{/usCountry}}Alok is wedded to co-actor Parna Pethe, but he says nothing much has changed between them since they got married. “Nothing has changed, as we are still friends first. We discuss work and everything under the sun. In fact, our entire group of friends gets together and consults each other. We were friends before entering the professional world, so we make it a point to hear each other’s opinions and have discussions related to work. It is like one big family.”
