Dipna Patel started her modelling career in Pune and went on to feature in several commercials, pageants, plays and films. Currently, the model-turned-actor is working with Sharman Joshi in the Hindi play, Raju Raja Ram Aur Main.
She has been travelling all over India for her plays. “The play is a Hindi adaptation of the super-hit Marathi play, Sahi Re Sahi. The upcoming show is on November 18 at NCPA, Mumbai. Then there is Tik Tak Tales, a children’s play in Hindi and English. The Exchange Student is also a children’s play in which I am playing three characters. Mayday is a one-act farcical, musical comedy in English. The play is inspired by the real life story of the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.”
An outsider to the industry, Dipna agrees that the journey is tough. “Having a godfather ensures you direct access to the right people. For the ones without any connection to the film industry, it is tough to get your foot in the door. But, at the end of the day with or without a godfather talent will always triumph. You just have to focus and keep working towards your goal.”
She admits that social media is a great way to stay connected with fans. “Apart from that, you also stay updated with what’s happening internationally in the world of films and theatre, and it is a great source of inspiration and motivation. My web show, Theatre Rapids, which is currently in its first season, is a series of live interviews with theatre personalities. It not only showcases their fun side but also gets their perspective on the art of theatre.”

Ask her what prompted her originally to enter the digital medium and she says, “I have always wanted to produce content for the digital medium. It allows you to do some exciting stuff in the way you want to. With increasing viewership on the digital platform, I thought it will be nice to produce a short film with a simple charming story that has a message. I have known Maitraya Kotecha (actor in the short film), and despite his hearing and speech impairment, his achievements in the field of modelling are noteworthy. When I approached him with the concept, he was excited to work with us and we all had a blast shooting the film.”
