Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar to be honoured on Nov 5

Noted Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar will be awarded with the prestigious 'Vishnudas Bhave Award' for his contribution to the world of theatre.

Noted Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar will be presented the prestigious 'Vishnudas Bhave Award' for his contribution to the world of theatre.

This was announced today by Dr Sharad Karale, President of Akhil Bharatiya Natya Vidya Mandir Samiti, Sangli on Monday.

The award, instituted by Sangli-based Akhil Bharatiya Natya Vidya Mandir in memory of the pioneer of Marathi drama, Vishnudas Bhave, will be presented by Dr Mohan Aagashe, President Akhil Bharatya Natya Sammelan on November 5.

Elkunchwar has more than 15 plays to his credit in addition to his theoretical writings, critical works, and his active work in parallel cinema as actor-screenwriter.

Those who have been honoured with the award in the past include legends like Bal Gandharv, P L Deshpande and Acharya Atre, among others, Karale, added.
