Another Malayalam actor joins the cast of Dhanush’s Maari 2. After signing Godha and Oru Mexican Aparatha fame Tovino Thomas as the baddie, actor Sai Pallavi, who rose to fame after playing Malar teacher in Premam, has landed the leading lady’s role in the sequel, which will be directed by Balaji Mohan. This will be Pallavi’s second Tamil outing after playing a mother to an 8-year-old in AL Vijay’s yet-unreleased Karu, which touches upon the sensitive topic of abortion. Balaji on Thursday said Pallavi’s character will be unique and very different from the story’s point of view.

Maari will reunite Dhanush and director Balaji Mohan. The project was supposed to happen much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the sequel plan had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, mustache twirling local rowdy and he was paired with Kajal Aggarwal. However, actors Robo Shankar and Vinod, who played Dhanush’s sidekicks, will be part of Maari 2. Following the fall out between Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander, it’d be interesting to see who will compose music for the sequel. Anirudh’s music was a huge plus for the first part. The film will be made as a bilingual and will be simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu.

The rest of the cast and crew will be finalised soon. The project will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films and will have cinematography by Velraj. Dhanush has also said he has plans to make a sequel to Power Paandi. Before he starts working on Maari 2, he should complete working on Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai, in which he plays a gangster based out of North Madras. The film tracks three decades in the life of a gangster.
