Superstar Rajinikanth on Monday told reporters at the Chennai airport that his upcoming political drama Kaala, as speculated by a section of media, won’t release in January next year before his highly anticipated Rs 400 crore magnum opus 2.0. However, he didn’t confirm whether 2.0, a sequel to his 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, has been postponed to pave way to the release of Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man on January 25, 2018. Next year, come what may, Thalaivar will have two releases and his fans are eagerly looking forward to both the films which are riding on very high expectations.
Kaala has been produced by Dhanush and on Monday his production house Wunderbar Films also clarified that the film is not coming out in January 2018. It is rumoured that the Pa Ranjith-directed caste-based political drama might hit the screens in June next year and the makers are planning a simultaneous release in Hindi as well. Rajinikanth plays a slum lord turned gangster who fights for the rights of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai. Nana Patekar plays a politician and the film’s leading antagonist. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.
Shankar’s 2.0 is believed to hit the screens during the Republic Day weekend. However, reports have emerged that the project might be postponed as there is likely to be a delay in completion of the film owing to high VFX work. As many as eleven studios from across the globe are currently working on the visual effects. At the film’s audio launch in Dubai, VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan said that 2.0 is undoubtedly the most challenging project he ever worked on.
