The dust is still to settle from the news of the kind of business films like Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Dangal (in China) have done, comes another one--reports suggest that Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar starrer 2.o, directed by Shankar, is already minting money.
There is still a year to go before 2.o will hit the screens, but the film is already on a roll -- the film’s Hindi theatrical rights have been sold for Rs 80 crore, a DNA report says. The makers wanted Rs 100 crore but it was thought to be too risky, and the deal was finally settled at Rs 80 crore. It’s believed that Akshay Kumar’s pan-India appeal settled the numbers.
It was earlier reported that Zee struck a deal with Lyca Productions, producers of 2.o, for the satellite rights of the film in all languages at a whopping Rs 110 crore, making it the highest amount paid for an Indian film.
Collectively, the pre-release earnings of the film sits at a whopping Rs 200 crore (approx).
A sequel to Enthiran, the film also stars Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain. While Akshay Kumar will be seen playing an ornithologist, Rajinikanth will be seen as a scientist and a robot. Tipped to be the most expensive Indian film ever being made on a budget of Rs 450 crore (discounting Mohanlal’s Rs 1,000 crore Mahabharata of course), 2.o is slated for release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi next year in a record number of screens worldwide.
