It is official! Dhanush announced the final release date of Rajinikanth's much-awaited film, Kaalaa, Saturday evening and it is set for an April release. The film will hit theatres on April 27. Dhanush is producing the film.

Sharing the news and a new poster of the film, Dhanush tweeted, “Mark the date !! #kaalaa #april27 the don of dons is back #Superstar #thalaivar.” Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kaalaa marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and the filmmaker after Kabali. The film was originally scheduled to be released on the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12, 2017. However, for unknown reasons, the project was postponed.

In the film, Rajinikanth plays a slum lord turned gangster who will lock horns with Nana Patekar, who will be seen as a corrupt, conniving politician. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. The film will also be dubbed and released in Telugu. Some rumours hint that the project might also be release in Hindi as it has dialogues in Hindi and Marathi and is predominantly shot in Mumbai.

Interestingly, Shankar’s 2.0, a sequel to Enthiran, was supposed to originally hit the screens on April 27. The release of the Rs 450 crore magnum opus has been deferred once again, owing to pending VFX work. As many as eleven studios from across the globe are currently working on the visual effects. At the film’s audio launch in Dubai, VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan said that 2.0 is undoubtedly the most challenging project he ever worked on.
