The early morning shows of Kamal Haasan-starrer Uttama Villain on Friday were cancelled across Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, the shows were cancelled due to a financial disagreement between the makers of the film and financiers. Apparently, the film's producers Thirrupathi Brothers owe Eros International, who are distributing the film worldwide, nearly Rs 5 crore.
"The early morning shows have been cancelled. The issue between the producers and the financiers is expected to be settled in a few hours. The film may release during the course of the day," one of the distributors said.
The shows have also been cancelled in Karnataka, Andhra and Telangana as well.
Directed by Ramesh Aravind, the film features Kamal Haasan in the role of an 8th century artist and a modern-day superstar.
Produced by Thirrupathi Brothers, the film is being distributed worldwide by Eros International.
It was reported on Thursday that the film was trimmed by the makers. "The original running time was 172 minutes. The makers have trimmed it by a few minutes as they felt the movie is too lengthy," said a source.
The source added that the trimmed version is likely to be played only in Tamil Nadu, while the rest of the world may watch the original version.
