MUMBAI: Mumbai City FC has named Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan as their marquee player for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League.
MUMBAI: Mumbai City FC has named Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan as their marquee player for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League.
Forlan began his career in Argentina and soon earned a move to Manchester United.
Having tasted success with the Red Devils, the forward then moved to La Liga and emerged as a top scorer with Spain’s Villareal CF and Club Atlético de Madrid.
Forlan won the Golden Ball Award as the top player at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and set his country’s record for most international appearances a year later.
He also plied his trade in Japan before most recently returning to his boyhood club Penarol in Uruguay and leading them to the Apertura title in the Uruguay first division.
He is a two-time winner of both the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe. He is regarded as one of the greatest Uruguayan players of all time.
EBRAHIM FINISHES SECOND IN ASIA SERIES
KUALA LUMPUR: India’s Armaan Ebrahim along with teammate Dilantha Malagamuwa finished second and third, respectively, in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia series at the Sepang International Circuit.
Armaan had a good start in the first race and enjoyed a sizeable lead when he handed over the car to Dilantha. The Sri Lankan, however, was passed and finished second.
Dilantha went out first in the second race and handed the car over to Armaan in second place. Armaan eventually finished third.
SACHDEVA QUALIFIES IN STATE SQUASH OPEN
MUMBAI: Mayank Sacheva overcame a strong challenge from Gautam Padhi winning 11-5, 11-3, 14-12 to make the boys’ under-15 main draw of the 41st Bombay Gymkhana Maharashtra State Open Squash Championships.
