Debutant Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz combined to give Liverpool an early first-half lead. Soon, Mateta equalised from the spot after a Virgil van Dijk foul. But Frimpong gave Liverpool the lead again in the first-half. In the second-half, Crystal Palace managed to get a late equaliser through Sarr. In the shootout, Dean Henderson reigned supreme as Palace raced to a win.
