Neeraj Chopra Javelin Throw Event Highlights, World Athletics Championships: Neeraj Chopra began his campaign with a massive 88.77m throw at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest (Hungary) on Friday. The Indian star finished on top of Group A and sealed qualification. After sealing qualification in his first throw, he didn't need to attempt his other two throws. Meanwhile, nobody else in his group hit the qualification mark of 83.00m. Germany's Julian Weber finished in second position with a best throw of 82.39m and India's DP Manu came third with a 81.31m best throw. Overall, Manu finished sixth and sealed qualification with a best throw of 81.31m. Meanwhile, Kishore Jena had a best throw of 80.55m in Group B to finish ninth overall and bagged qualificaion. On the other hand, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem was in hot form, bagging season bests in all his throws in Group B, also hitting the qualification mark with 86.79m in his final attempt.

At the beginning of the year, I had prepared quite well, but then I got injured which led me to skip a few competitions. After that, I returned and participated in the Lausanne Diamond League, where my performance was good. Since then, everything has gotten better, and I am happy with my performance and training."

  "For me, the most important thing is to be mentally prepared for the challenge knowing that the World Championships is approaching, and I want to perform well there.   Ahead of the Worlds, Neeraj spoke about reaching the 90m mark. In conversation with Jio Cinema, he said, "Definitely, I'm close. I just need one perfect day with favourable weather conditions and I am confident I'll be able to achieve the throw."

  "I have somewhat become accustomed to handling pressure. However, when I participate in competitions that occur once every two to four years (like the World Championships and the Olympics), there is undoubtedly a sense of responsibility. But, I always give my hundred percent and perform with complete focus. Initially, there were other factors which used to overwhelm me but gradually I have gotten used to it," he further added.
