Union home minister Amit Shah congratulated the Tamil Nadu government for their handling of Covid-19 pandemic and said that the state government has been exemplary when compared to other states in terms of testing and recovery rates.

Shah who is on a visit to Chennai ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections highlighted several projects undertaken by the Narendra Modi-led government and pointed out that the Centre has ensured that people of Tamil Nadu receive equal benefits of these projects.

Shah said, “Modi government has transferred more than Rs 4,000 crore for the benefit of Tamil Nadu’s 45 lakh farmers.” He also said that several women have also benefitted from central’s Ujjwala scheme and have had money directly transferred to their accounts because of Centre’s initiatives.

Shah also said that the NDA government and the prime minister are firmly standing with the people of Tamil Nadu and will continue to do so in the future.

As the state goes for polls in 2021, AIADMK (All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) leader and Tamil Nadu deputy CM O Panneerselvam said that his party will fight the state polls alongside BJP. The home minister also lashed out at Congress for not allotting more funds to Tamil Nadu during the UPA regime.

Shah said that the NDA government increased the funds to Rs 32,800 which is almost double the ‘Rs 16,000-odd crore’ that the Manmohan Singh-led government had then sanctioned.

He also lashed out at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and said that the BJP will make sure that Tamil Nadu does not vote for a family-based party.

He said, “We’ve been defeating family-based parties in several states, and now it’s Tamil Nadu’s turn. We will defeat the family-based party in the state as well.”

He also said that PM Modi ensured that India is well-respected in the international forum. Shah said, “India has stepped upon a higher pedestal under PM Modi and he has also ensured the borders are secure. Tamil fishermen have no worries anymore.”
