Centre asks states to declare Black Fungus an epidemic amid shortage of drugs

The health ministry has asked all states to declare mucormycosis or 'black fungus' an epidemic. In a letter to all states and union territories the ministry of health asked all states to notify mucormycosis under the epidemic act. Earlier, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope had said that the state is unable to treat the patients of black fungus due to shortage of key drugs. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting to address the rising cases of mucormycosis in the capital. 2 states- Rajasthan & Telangana have already declared the outbreak an epidemic.
