Act against policemen who caned AMU students: Allahabad HC

The petitioner requested the high court to pass several directions, including setting up of a ‘court monitored committee’ to conduct a judicial inquiry into acts of violence and arbitrary detention of students by the state police and para-military forces at AMU from December 12 to December 15, 2019.
The petitioner said students had gathered at the Maulana Azad Library and marched up to AMU gate on December 15, 2019. After sometime, the police started firing teargas shells on the students and also cane charged them, in which around 100 students were injured, the petitioner alleged. High courts functioning with 38% judges’ posts vacant, says Centre

As of December 1, the 25 high courts in the country had 669 judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 1,079, with 410 posts lying vacant. Some of the high courts are functioning at less than 50% of their sanctioned strength.

Allahabad HC asks for progress report in Chinmayanand case, to hear case on Oct 22

The Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognizance in the matter of the missing girl and had directed the High Court to monitor the investigation of the case.
