State sanctions Rs 7.97 crore compensation for victims of Bhima Koregaon riots

The order states that the district collector of Pune sent a proposal seeking approval for compensation estimated to be worth Rs 7,97,90,670 to the state government, after the panchnama and other formalities were completed by the administration.

Bhima Koregaon riots: Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote granted bail

Milind Ekbote, president, Samastha Hindutva Aghadi was granted bail on a bond of Rs 25,000 by additional sessions judge SM Menjoge on Thursday in a case registered at Shikrapur police station. The court also warned Ekbote to not tamper with prosecution evidence or threaten the prosecution witnesses.

Rahul Fatangale, son of a poor farmer was killed by a mob at Sanaswadi on January 1 after riots broke out in Koregaon Bhima during commemoration of the 200 years of Bhima Koregaon war of January 1, 1818 in which the British forces defeated the Peshwa army.

Defence lawyer S K Jain had argued that Ekbote's arrest on April 4 in the second case was merely aimed to frustrate the special court's bail order and that the conspiracy charge against Ekbote was far-fetched. The court has posted the matter for an order on April 19
