HC junks PIL to revoke Kanhaiya Kumar’s citizenship, fines petitioner Rs 25K

The court imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on the petitioner for casually filing the plea to gain “cheap publicity” and for wasting precious time of the court which was working with “limited strength due to the pandemic”.

11-hour Northeast bandh begins to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan if they faced religious persecution there. They will be given Indian citizenship after residing in the country for five years, instead of 11 years which is the current norm.
