Gunmen kill 11 Hazara coal miners in Pakistan

The men were abducted at gunpoint and taken to a secluded area where they were attacked, according to various accounts. It is believed they were kidnapped from their hostel located near a mine where they worked

Four miners die in Nagaland rat-hole mine, locals allege toxic gas inhalation

The incident took place in Phichen area of Nagaland’s Longleng district. The bodies were retrieved during the night and were kept at the police station. The deceased have been identified as Jitan Tanti, Krishnan Gogoi, Tutu Deka and Sushan Phuton — all natives of Assam.

Bodies of four coal miners were fished out from an illegal rat-hole mine in Nagaland’s Longleng district. A case of unnatural deaths has been reported and police suspect a mudslide or inhalation of a toxic gas as possible causes of the deaths.(Reuters)

Families seek miracle at Meghalaya ‘rat hole’ mine where 15 miners trapped for nearly two weeks

The 15 miners went to work at the mine in Meghalaya on December 13 and have been underground ever since.The mine is an old, illegal so-called rat-hole mine, common in Meghalaya but dangerous as the coal is pulled out from narrow, horizontal seams.

Rescue workers were trying to reach 15 coal miners trapped underground for 13 days on Wednesday as families prayed for their safe return, but chances of survival looked slim after floodwaters rushed through the illegal “rat-hole” pit in Meghalaya.(Reuters)

Coal India production, shipments at record highs in March
