Madhusudan Law College in Odisha becomes university

Madhusudan Law College, one of the oldest law institutes in Odisha and India, was upgraded to the status of a university on Wednesday, an official said.
Named after "Utkal Gaurav" Madhusudan Das, a great legislator and journalist of the 19th century, the institute at Cuttack will be known as Madhusudan Law University from this day, when the state observes his birth anniversary. (iStock)

Forest officials rescue 14-foot-long King cobra from Odisha village. Watch

Odisha law minister, 12 others booked for murder of BJP leader and his associate

Soon after the murder, police in Cuttack registered a case against 13 people, including state law minister Pratap Jena for their alleged involvement in the double murder of BJP leader Baral and his associate and relative Dibyasingh on Saturday evening.

Odisha BJP leader killed, associate critical; police suspect past enmity

Kulamani Baral, BJP’s Salepur in-charge and former chairman of the Mahanga Panchayat Samity under Cuttack district was returning home with his associate Dibyasingh Baral on a bike when six men caught up with him at Jankoti on Shukanai embankment road.
The two men were immediately taken to the Mahanga Hospital where Baral was declared dead by doctors at the facility. His associate has been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and is in a critical condition.(HT FILE PHOTO.)

In last 2 weeks, 43 people have returned to Odisha from UK

Additional chief secretary of Health and Family Welfare department PK Mohapatra said of the 43 UK returnees, 21 went to Bhubaneswar, one to Khurda, five to Cuttack, three each to Koraput and Berhampur and two each to Nayagarh and Nabarangpur, one each to Jajpur, Rajgangpur, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur and Sakhigopal towns.

To save Mahanadi river, NGT orders setting up expert panel to lay down norms

The NGT order came in response to a petition filed by Dilip Samantray, a Cuttack-based citizen to the state government’s plan of transforming the state-run SCB Medical College and Hospital into an “AIIMS Plus” institute with an expenditure of Rs 1000 crore earlier this year.

Kalia, fused at the head with his twin Jaga since birth in 2015, was separated from his sibling by a team of doctors at AIIMS New Delhi in India’s first Craniopagus surgery in the course of 45 hours of surgery conducted over two months.

Following the death, Puri-based lawyer Sarat Kumar Rayguru on Friday filed a PIL with the Orissa High Court seeking a court-monitored probe into the matter demanding stringent action against the errant police officials and compensation for the deceased’s family.

Odisha govt tells officials not to rush Covid cases to Bhubaneswar

With 4613 active cases in Bhubaneswar and 2213 cases in Cuttack city till Monday, the twin cities have now become Covid hotspots while the hospitals in the two cities are struggling to admit new patients.
