The total of taxes on diesel add up to about 46% at Rs 28.06 per litre, and the total of other cost components is Rs 34.52 a litre, showed the data on fuel price components released after the Centre raised excise duties on the two fuels by Rs 3 on Saturday.

However, the decision will not apply to the grape wine industry. The state government has already waived off excise duty on wine made of grapes for 10 years, which ends in December 2021. Maharashtra is considered the biggest producer of grape wine in the country.

In a first in the country, the Maharashtra government plans to print barcodes on caps of all liquor bottles to plug duty evasion, tackle an annual revenue loss of Rs 1,500-Rs 1,800 crore and prevent duplication of liquor, said excise officials.

Petrol price in Delhi was cut to Rs 76.71 a litre from Rs 76.91 on Saturday, according to a price notification issued by state-owned fuel retailers. Diesel is being now sold at Rs 71.56 per litre as compared to Rs 71.74 on Saturday.

Petrol price in Delhi has been reduced by nine paise to retail at Rs 81.25 per litre, while it is being retailed at Rs 86.73 per litre after an eight paise reduction in Mumbai. However, there is no decline in price of diesel in Delhi and Mumbai.

Diesel now costs Rs 75.46 per litre in Delhi, a shade higher than Rs 75.45 a litre price when the government on October 4 announced the excise duty cut in 12 months.
