It starts with Mahalaya (September 25) with the ritual of 'pran pratistha' which is done by painting the eyes on the idol goddess Durga. Sasthi, Saptami, Ashtami are the other auspicious days with their own significance and rituals. The celebrations culminate on Vijaya Dashami day when the idols are immersed in rivers.
