India's Omicron tally reaches 2,630; 26 states now have cases of the new variant

The new Omicron variant has led to a massive surge in India’s Covid-19 tally, which reached 90,928 on Thursday morning. On Wednesday, the number was 58,097. ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava said on Wednesday that Omicron is the predominant circulating strain in India.

Centre awaits expert advice on kids’ inoculation against Covid

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization is likely to meet next week to discuss key issues, including the matter of vaccinating children against Covid-19 and administering booster doses.
On August 20, the Drugs Controller General of India granted emergency use authorization to Zydus’ vaccine. The vaccine has been tested, and approved for restricted use, in anyone aged 12 years and above, clearing the first shot for use in children and adding a sixth inoculation in India’s toolbox to fight the pandemic.

Covid-19 in India: New cases go up to 50,040, infection tally hits 30.23 million

The number of active Covid-19 cases in India has declined to 586,403 or 1.97% of the total cases. As many as 29,251,029 patients have been cured of Covid-19 till now, with 57,944 of them being discharged in the last 24 hours alone.
