Officials said the districts of Khurda, Cuttack and Puri alone have registered more than 32,000 cases this month as they continued to be the hotspots while the infection was fast spreading in 15 other districts.
The Odisha government on Friday approved the establishment of new Covid-19 hospitals and additional facility in the district of Cuttack, Koraput and Khurda as the infection surged in those areas. On Friday, BJD MP from Nabarangpur, Ramesh Majhi too tested positive for Covid-19 and requested everyone who came in contact with him to get themselves tested. Majhi is the 4th MP from Odisha to have tested positive for Covid-19.

The maximum of 182 fresh cases were reported from Ganjam, the worst-hit district by the coronavirus pandemic, 121 from Khurda, 38 from Cuttack, 35 from Bargarh, 22 each from Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur and Mayurbhanj, 20 from Sambalpur, 19 from Jajpur, 18 from Sundergarh, 13 from Balasore and 11 from Nayagarh.

PM Modi who conducted an aerial survey of the cyclone-affected districts of Balasore and Bhadrak along with chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, said he had a detailed review of the losses in agriculture, housing, power, communication and infrastructure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement after an aerial survey of areas hit by cyclone ‘Amphan’ and holding a review meeting with Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The cyclonic storm, which triggered heavy rains and accompanied high-velocity winds gusting up to 190 kmph in coastal areas, made a landfall in the Sunderbans in West Bengal on Wednesday evening.(PTI)
