Odisha Lokayukta serves notice to BJD MLA over allegation that he blew up a flood embankment

Earlier, the opposition BJP too had accused the BJD MLA of blowing off the river embankment in flood-affected Jajpur district with dynamite seeking stringent action against him. BJP state general secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar had alleged that the 300-feet breach in the embankment of the Kelua River was deliberately created.
The office of the Lokayukta served a notice to BJD MLA Pranab Balabantaray and five other officials of works and water resources department including a relative of the MLA for hearing in the matter in December after RTI activist Sarbeswar Beura lodged a complaint.(SOURCED.)

Full moon day slows flood water release, Odisha villages fight waterlogging

The flood has affected at least 1.4 million people across 20 districts of the state, but the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara and Khurda have been the worst hit.
So far, 22 people in the state have died due to the flood. A total of 3256 villages under 896 gram panchayats in 112 blocks were hit due to the massive flood.(ANI)

Odisha’s Covid-19 tally rises to 16,701, death toll now 86

The maximum of 182 fresh cases were reported from Ganjam, the worst-hit district by the coronavirus pandemic, 121 from Khurda, 38 from Cuttack, 35 from Bargarh, 22 each from Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur and Mayurbhanj, 20 from Sambalpur, 19 from Jajpur, 18 from Sundergarh, 13 from Balasore and 11 from Nayagarh.

Covid-19: Odisha denies any community transmission as state count climbs to 23

Earlier in the day, Odisha chief secretary Asit Tripathy said that community transmission of the disease is yet to happen in Odisha due to the lockdown and social distancing measures undertaken. The chief secretary said the 48-hour shutdown in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Jajpur would come to an end on 8 pm Sunday, but advised people against going out en masse afterwards.
