Businesses hit by Covid-19 lockdown, Darjeeling wants tourists be allowed

The Darjeeling Hotel Owners’ Association, Himalayan Transport Coordination Committee and Darjeeling Home Stay Owners’ Association on Sunday held a meeting with other stakeholders and adopted a proposal to be submitted to the GTA.
The GTA is likely to take a call soon but tourists would be allowed in a phased manner, insiders aware of the developments said. (Reuters)

2 killed as heavy rains lash north Bengal, thunderstorm forecast for Kolkata

The Met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain till Friday morning in the north Bengal districts of Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Darjeeling, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri.

Paid quarantine for returnees helps Sikkim hotels recover lockdown losses

According to the hotel owners, there has been a huge response from local people returning from other states as they are barred from staying at home but have the option of staying in paid quarantine at hotels. For those who cannot afford hotels, the Sikkim government offers institutional quarantine.
