126 released on parole in May to decongest Jharkhand jails in Covid-19 time

A senior official said that to decongest prisons in the state amid Covid-19 pandemic, a new jail has been set up at Barhi in Hazaribag with a capacity to accommodate 300 inmates.

SC calls for early release of eligible convicts

An application filed by lawyer Sachin Yadav drew the court’s attention to the fact that many such prisoners were languishing in prison as these boards had not convened during the pandemic.
Yadav was represented by advocate Shoeb Alam, who referred to a May 7 order of the top court aimed at decongesting prisons during the pandemic that said prisoners charged with non-heinous crimes be granted interim bail or parole for 90 days.(HT File)

202 prisoners out on emergency parole fail to surrender, declared fugitives
